Sold out everywhere but EveryMarket has them, is EveryMarket legit or a scam?

Main Post: Sold out everywhere but EveryMarket has them, is EveryMarket legit or a scam?

Top Comment: I am genuinely desperate for these, I lost mine after a bee tried to sting me in my eye and I ran and they fell out into the bushes. Can I trust this site or is there any other location where I can get them?

Top Comment: If it’s too good to be true it probably is.... In this case it probably is a scam.

Can we stop mentioning every market movement?

Main Post:

This is like r/stocks, I purposefully get away from those subs and news sources so I don't see market movements and yet I am getting a perfect relay of what's happening to the market over here by guys that are somehow receiving upvotes. Whats up with that?

Top Comment: Sometimes new investors need some reassurance that what they perceive as market turmoil is actually no big deal. We want to allow those sorts of posts, so we’re not going to enforce some sort of information vacuum with respect to market movements (and some Bogleheads enjoy tracking the market rather than not peeking, which is valid as long as it’s not a problem for them) But if something’s overkill (which has happened lately) we will act in particular cases. E.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bogleheads/s/DZb5E6mMa3 So if you see something that you think might be inappropriate you can report it so that we review it more expeditiously.

Why is the market so bad right now, still?

Main Post:

I was looking for a new job about a year ago and everybody said the market was really bad. I'm in the same position again, and people are saying the same thing.

I've got about 20 years experience, currently working in typescript/ node/aws. Back end developer with some front-end experience. But my preference is definitely back end.

The opinions about the market from people that I have talked to:

  • it's pretty bad, there's a lot of competition for jobs because of remote work (recruiter who mostly hires contracts)
  • it's terrible, because AI can do half of the work (colleague)
  • it's pretty bad, there's more candidates than jobs and most jobs are requiring you to be on site (recruiter who mostly hires contracts)

I'm currently on a contract (remote) and looking to go full-time. I'd rather not take a pay cut, but boy it looks like I would have to -- even after allowing for benefits etc in the calculation.

So what's going on here? Are we just still kind of reshuffling from shift to remote work? Is the lack of easy money from investors hampering hiring?

Top Comment: Interest rates not low, business uncertainty high, consumer sentiment in the toilet which usually means even worse economic conditions ahead. Good luck out there.

If you’re not grocery shopping at Market Basket, you are getting ripped off

Main Post:

I live in a town with 2 major grocery chain stores, each store mostly known for lackluster service and insane prices. I drive 20 minutes out of my way to do any big grocery shopping at MB. Was there today and pretty much everything I buy there is 10-40% less than the local big chains. Couple examples from today - 2 liter Diet Coke - 3/$5 at MB, local store $3.49 each. Eggs - 18 pack at MB $4.79, local stores, assuming they have some, $10+. And MB had all the eggs you could want.

Sure these may be loss leaders but everything is cheaper there. Shaw’s, Star mkt, Stop & Shop can go get bent.

Edit: wow this really blew up! I have been to just one MB store and it’s extremely well run, efficient, and while busy, everyone seems to act like rational humans. Sorry to hear others are not in the same league.

Is the Mobile App Market a Golden Opportunity or Just an Illusion?

Main Post:

Some people make it sound like getting into the mobile app market is easy just get a few users, and voilà, you’ve got revenue. But others say that the odds of success are slim to none.

I think the truth is somewhere in between, but I still wonder how hard it really is. Do most apps fail because they’re made by developers who don't understand marketing, or is the market just too crowded?

To me, if you have a decent product and strong marketing, you should be able to sell a lot.

Top Comment: making the app is the easy part. convincing people to download it is very hard

Is this Website legit or a scam?

Main Post:

Wasn't sure where else to ask this, but I'm currently shopping for a new snowboard and came across in the google search - this board is normally around $500. Is this too good to be true and the website is just a scam?

This isn't really something that can be known for sure. If you host a website and set it up properly but sell shoddy product there is no way to tell that. Same way as if you go into any business in person.

That said, this site does look a bit dodgy. It was only registered 2 days ago. Generally, established companies have been registered for years. The registrar is called "Namecheap Inc." which is a budget hosting provider. So we know that this company is using budget focus as a purchasing decision at least for they web presence. Given they don't appear to have in person stores that's a pretty important part of who they are. When you Google the URL the top result is the company (good) but the next result is scam-detector (less good) and the 3rd result is "tvstuffonline.com" (known for their quality products...).

In my opinion, I wouldn't do business here. If you have to ask if it's dodgy, then usually it is or it's of a quality worth missing out on anyway.
